Hello July.

It’s been a minute since I’ve written anything for the blog and I truthfully wasn’t going to sit down to break my hiatus yet but I wanted to take this moment to tell my Mammaw HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

She is my #1 blog fan and I know she will be reading this early in the morning on her 96th birthday today!!! I wish to God I could have been there to celebrate and hug her in TN. I hate that Covid has put a serious damper on my family’s routine and I’m missing another birthday with Mammaw. I’ve never gone this long without seeing my family and it stinks.

If there’s one thing my heart needs right now it’s some serious quality time with my family.

I am linking up to share my monthly recap of June (and May/April).

What we're eating this week:

This week we have a mix of dinners at home and dinners out. I made a dinner calendar for the week that includes steak night, Indian butter chicken, baked fish, and I can’t even recall the rest at the moment.😅 I’m excited to try the new Indian butter chicken recipe I found in a cookbook I ordered 6+ months ago but hardly had a chance to look at. I tried a recipe from it last week for cabbage rolls and tweaked it with what I had on hand and the hubby approved of it so that was a win.

What I'm reminiscing about:

Mammaw’s birthdays in the past! It’s been a major family celebration each year, but especially after she moved in 2016 to TN. My family (all ~40 of us!) still made a point to all get together to celebrate each year until the pandemic came about.

What I'm loving:

Our new home. We moved on the 16th of June and while we’re still organizing and doing things for the house, we’re excited to have started this new chapter and to have closed the moving chapter.

What we've been up to:

UGH.

Life has been a doozy.

The past month(s) have been a struggle to keep up between a (failed) IVF cycle in April, house showings, packing to move, preparing for the new house, unpacking the new house, work, helping my great aunt (hospital visits, assisted living stuff, home health stuff, bills, power of attorney things, etc.) and other family stuff we help with, and my beautiful Granny passed away unexpectedly in late May at 93 years old.

We are still in shock that she’s no longer here. It just doesn’t feel real yet. I had to handle her funeral and am working on her estate stuff as well. Tacking that on to the grieving and everything else life has thrown at me and I feel like I literally cannot mentally, physically, or emotionally handle one.more.thing. Jesus take the wheel. Pretty please.

I’m going to take this moment to acknowledge how important mental health is and I have every intention to get scheduled with my therapist again…as soon as I get the time. SMH If you do not see a therapist, you probably should. Even the “healthiest” of people can benefit from counseling even when you think you have nothing to talk about. It’s important to have a safe, independent, third party outlet to talk to.

What I'm dreading:

The rest of summer’s weather in Houston.

What I'm working on:

My mind is a blur on this topic. HA!

I’m working on new house stuff, address changes, estate stuff, elderly care stuff, and finding small ways to try to put my sanity first. 😋

I have a ton of things I’d like to share with you all soon, I just don’t know when I’ll be able to sit down to do it just yet.

What I'm excited about:

The hubs and I are headed to California this month to see my brother, sister in law, and four nieces before we head into Napa for some wine tasting and a family wedding. I’m looking forward to the cooler temps, smiling family faces, and getting to love on my sweet nieces who are 8, almost 7, and almost 6 years old (twins) this summer. The hubby and I have hardly even had dinner alone lately much less any one on one time so it will be a nice get-away.

What I'm watching/reading:

Watching: We had our TV’s hung and set up this past week so I’ve tuned into the Hallmark Christmas in July! Hallmark Movies and Mysteries has already started it and the regular Hallmark channel will start it on July 9th.

Reading: I finally finished the book “Autumn” on my Kindle app that I last shared with you. It was a nice read and while most stories like this have a Hallmark type of ending - I was still curious through the little twists and turns. It has 3 other parts: Summer, Winter, and Spring that I just might come back to and read.

I am now reading another book I purchased last September as well. It was a surprise to me when it pulled up in my next/unread because I purchased it so long ago I didn’t even remember it. HA! It has been pretty good so far and is an easy, light read as well. It is part of a series and I can see myself reading the others.

*These are leisure reads for my treadmill running when I need to zone out!

What I'm listening to:

Currently: Leeland “Where You Are”

And on repeat: Hillsong United’s album “Empires” or my Spotify “Scandal of Grace” playlist. I just cannot get enough. It’s a shame I am so tone def because I sure do sing loudly.

What I'm wearing:

It’s summer time and it’s HOT!

I’m mostly wearing athleisure around the house right now or summer dresses. I struggle with shorts or jeans sticking to me this time of year so you’ll rarely catch me in them. I picked up a few dresses from Target that are so easy to throw on and go. I’ll share them soon if they’re still available when I get around to taking a photo in them.

All of these outfit pics are from May-June before we moved to the new house, hence our old back yard.

What I'm doing this weekend:

Visiting with friends and family, going to church, and working around the new house I suspect.

What I'm looking forward to next month:

I can’t believe this, but August is currently blank and I’m praising God for it! I have no doubt things will come up but for now I relish in any opportunity to keep our schedule clear.

What else is new:

That’s it for now.
