Pet Birthday Party Ideas

Hi there, friends.

I hope you had a nice and relaxing long weekend with President’s Day. We’re officially past Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl Sunday so pretty much spring is almost over and summer is here.

I’m kidding of course, but Easter is around the corner and then we ease into summertime after that and before we know it the year flies by. EEK!

I’m working through a list of things to share with you all in between regular life/seasonal things and since we just celebrated Lorenzo’s 6th birthday I thought this is a good enough time as ever to scratch this topic off of my list. PET BIRTHDAY PARTY THEMES!

I’ve always celebrated my pups’ birthdays through the years and it started with a general birthday party theme (ie: balloons and cake). Personally, that is and was always enough to me so long as they were celebrated, acknowledged, and loved. As time has gone on and with having three pups now I felt the itch to differentiate their birthday pawties a little bit and now I am a full on themed party planning dog-mom. I’m here for it and I love it.

Before we continue, please note that I do not ever intend to imply that you have to celebrate your fur babies like I do nor intend to imply that if you don’t that you do not love them as much. This is just what I have morphed into doing through the years because it brings me joy.

Make sure to pin this to Pinterest to save this for later or to share it.

Now, let’s take a look.

General Birthdays: This pawty are the easiest to pull together, can be used for either pet gender, and can be reused for multiple birthdays through the years.

Items to get for these are birthday hats, garlands that can be hung or laid across the table, noise makers, confetti, and napkins. These are items I reuse a lot and add to each birthday party depending on the theme as you’ll see in a lot of the photos below.

We moved in June 2021 and didn’t get to celebrate Loretta on her own that year so I used a lighter mix of bright colors for both of them.

Themed Birthdays: Themed birthdays are a lot of fun and a way to not only hone in on your little one’s favorite characters or your fur baby’s favorite toy(s), but also a way to express some creativity if you have the time and desire.

Some ideas to consider for BOYS:

1) Superhero themes including police, firemen, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, or general comic book heroes.

2) Favorite toy themes including monkeys, bears, ducks, bunnies, and balls (think of a ball pit). You can create a party theme based off of any of these.

3) Racecar or racecar driver theme if they love riding in the car, or a construction theme with dump trucks and excavators.

4) Mail carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx) theme if they love greeting the delivery drivers.

5) Food themes based on their favorite treat or special meal like a “pup cup”, hamburger meat, steaks, or whatever things you may spoil your pups with.

6) Dinosaur themes are cute in general or for “Three Rex”, “Roar I’m Four”, or “Fourocious”.

7) Jungle, lion, or tiger theme for a “Roar I’m Four”, “Fourocious”, or a “Wild” theme.

8) Holiday themes if your pup’s birthday is close to a holiday like Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, Christmas, etc. It would be easy to make a cute birthday theme based on any holiday.

9) Outer space, NASA, astronaut themes work great for any birthday age, but are especially cute for “Reach FOUR the stars or moon”.

10) Character themes like Ninja Turtles, Disney Characters from movies, Legos, or Ninjas.

Let’s look at some the themes I’ve used for Lorenzo and Luigi:

Some ideas to consider for GIRLS:

1) Female superhero themes like Wonder Woman, Super Woman, The Incredibles, Police Woman, etc.

2) Royalty themes like a Princess or Queen

3) Garden themes can include garden tea parties, garden fairies, or gnomes.

4) Diamonds and pearls

5) Animal themes based on her favorite toy such as hedgehogs, frogs (kiss a frog to find her Prince), teddy bears, squirrels, etc.

6) A doll or Barbie doll party theme can be super cute.

7) Mermaid or ocean theme

8) Food themes like ice cream pawty, cupcakes, tacos (fiesta or “taco ‘bout a handful”) or whichever food is her favorite treat. If cheese you could have a “barkuterie” board (think charcuterie board) party.

9) Character themed parties like Disney princesses or heroines, Monsters Inc, Barbie, Clueless.

10) Holiday themed parties (mentioned above) based on the holiday closest to their birthdays always works great and is easy to decorate for! Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Independence Day, Fall (pumpkins), Halloween (costumes), Thanksgiving (turkey), or and Christmas (so many to choose from!).

Let’s look at some the themes I’ve used for Loretta:

I’m adding some fun cake pans below that you can use if you also like to make homemade treats for your pups. I’ve previously shared a great Paleo cake recipe for the pups that you can look at and print out here. My babies LOVE this! It’s healthy for them and easy to make.
