Getting to Know Me - 2019 Christmas Edition!

Ho-ho-ho! Happy Howl-idays!

Christmas time has been a bit different this year for a lot of reasons. I was anticipating this season all year long because it is my favorite time of the year!!! I promised myself I would spend at least one hour a day sitting down for once, doing nothing for once, and enjoying Hallmark Christmas movies while snuggling my dog(s).

Well, that hasn’t happened once yet and it’s December 18th.

I suspect it won’t happen, either. =/ #missionfailed

It took me about 3 weeks to get all of my Christmas decor out around our house versus my one day Christmas decorating extravaganza. In part because we hosted Thanksgiving and I wanted to keep some fall decor up and in part because I simply did not have the time to decorate after we adopted 2 new doggies amidst the 984,763 items on my to-do list and travels. But, I love our Christmas decorated home and though it took longer than normal to decorate, I still love it.

I haven’t taken pictures of all of our decor this year because I haven’t been home to think about it! These are our five trees this year…that’s two more trees than we had last year. =)

So HERE WE ARE! I’m in Knoxville again, listening to Christmas music while Hallmark Christmas is on the TV, sitting next to my Mammaw’s bed. I’ll take some Christmas spirit any way I can. <3 To add to my Christmas spirit (longing) I thought I’d look at a fun Christmas questionnaire. I haven’t shared one of these in two years and I always enjoy reading them when others share them. Reply with some or all of yours in the comments below!

  1. What’s the best – or worst – Christmas present you’ve ever received? The best Christmas gift I ever received was my engagement ring from my hubs! He proposed on Christmas Eve (technically ~ 2am on Christmas morning). Other runner ups have been my Wemo Crockpot, Immersion Blender, and Spiralizer. ;) Things I wanted but wouldn’t buy myself…

  2. Describe a Christmas present you wanted badly as a kid, but never received. A Power Wheel ride on motorized Barbie car.

  3. Name something about Christmas that most people like, but you hate (or at least dislike). I am pretty sure I love absolutely everything about Christmas.

  4. If you could only have one type of Christmas candy this year, what would you choose? Peanut M&M’s or any kind of chocolate peppermint bark.

  5. What holiday movie or special do you watch over and over again? Christmas Vacation on repeat over and over and over again. It just makes my heart feel at home and reminds me of my childhood because we watched it so much.

  6. What’s the weirdest/ugliest Christmas decoration you’ve ever owned? Probably my little dog/reindeer looking guy that has wire and Christmas balls hanging from his head. That’s a terrible description of him because he’s actually SUPER cute and I love him! But, one might think it’s eclectic. He sits on my kitchen counter every year. If I was home when writting this I’d have a picture of him to share, but I am in Knoxville. (And thank you, Konni, for my cute little gift.)

  7. What was Christmas like when you were growing up? Magical. My mom decorated our house to the MAX. My dad hung Christmas lights everywhere, of course after we literally “checked every bulb” to replace any that were burned out. We always had a real tree which smelled amazing and we typically did not get rid of for months after Christmas (oops!). We had to get formally dressed up for Christmas and had to walk out into the den one by one, waiting for the sibling before us to be filmed by my dad who would video tape and ask us to state our name, age, etc. Then the gift unwrapping would commence - all on film too. Once our morning was completed, we’d head over to Mammaw’s to spend the day with our whole family.

  8. Who is the toughest person you have to buy for this Christmas? Typically my dad. Not because we can’t think of things we WANT to get him, but because he is notorious for making us return things. =/

  9. What one thing are you most grateful for this holiday season? That Christ loves me relentlessly and keeps seeking me when I need it most. Plus, each and every day my family has their health.

  10. Share one vivid Christmas memory, good or bad. I received a toy microphone when I was about 8 or 9. Of course, I was on film because my dad video taped everything and my great Aunt Lena asked me to say something into the microphone. Being the introvert that I am and mortified to be forced to say something under pressure, I said, “I’m ugly.” Well, I immediately shocked my family by my response and got in trouble for the remainder of Christmas. =/

  11. What’s your favorite – or least favorite – Christmas song? My favorite Christmas song is ‘O Holy Night’. I love just about any version I hear and it brings me to tears.

  12. If you could travel anywhere for Christmas, where would you go? I would travel to the mountains somewhere to have Christmas in the snow (and fireplace).

  13. What’s the most memorable thing that’s happened to you since last Christmas? Gosh, if I reflect on all of 2019 then there are a lot of memorable things that have happened to my loved ones - engagements, babies, weddings! I guess for me it would be when we adopted two new fur babies at the beginning of November.

  14. What’s your least favorite item on your Christmas to-do list? I can’t believe I am going to say this but this year it is hosting anything, but that is only because I haven’t had the time to truly prep and invest time in planning (anything) holiday fun. This is MY season but to truly do it right, I need to be able to do all the things I love to do to host. I just have to write off this Christmas and know that I will do all the hosting things I love next year.

  15. Would you rather have three feet of snow for Christmas, or no snow at all? THREE feet of snow please. Heck, I’d take even six inches of snow. Any snow. A flurry or two. Sleet. Freezing rain. Freezing temperatures. Cold temperatures. No humidity. Basically anything but 75* F predicted weather we will have on Christmas day. =/

  16. If someone offered you a gift card to any store you wanted, which one would you choose? Well…I would normally choose something like Target, Amazon, or Walmart so that I can spend it on anything including but not limited to household necessities or gifts for other people. If I had to choose something truly only for me then Nordstrom.

  17. What’s your favorite holiday? Least favorite? My favorite holiday is Christmas, Christmas time, winter time, Thanksgiving, and fall. Yes, that’s more than one holiday/season and I know it. My least favorite holiday is Halloween typically. I enjoy the costumes other people pick but I get too much anxiety over choosing one myself.

  18. What’s your favorite character from a Christmas-themed movie, book, or TV special? Clark W. Griswold Jr., Elf, then Frosty the Snowman.

  19. What’s the best gift you’ve ever given someone? I’d literally say myself but that was never limited to Christmas and sometimes we give too much of ourselves anyway. Hmmmm…perhaps a book I wrote in daily of everything I was grateful for.

  20. If you were Santa Claus, what type of cookie would you want to be left out for you on Christmas Eve? Always chocolate chip, unless it’s chocolate-chocolate chip. And make it GF, egg free, and sugar free will you?

  21. Name three words that best describe Christmas for you. Magical, sentimental, nostalgic.

  22. Describe a funny Christmas card you have given or received. I actually just a received a funny Elf Christmas card from my dear bestie and new-mama, Karen, that plays quotes from the movie. I loved it!

  23. Would you rather build a snowman, go sledding, have a snowball fight, or stay inside drinking hot cocoa? Stay inside and drink hot cocoa (or wine), go sledding, build a snowman, or have a snowball fight…in that order.

  24. The true meaning of Christmas is the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Also to share in love and joy among family and friends and to brighten the spirits of everyone around you and the less fortunate. Truly, that’s what it means to me.

Now’s your turn to share some of your responses below! I’d love to see what you think and feel about Christmas too.

XOXO
