We’ve made it to March and it feels so good!

I’m both a creature of habit and adventurous, especially when it comes to food. While I like to try new places or new dishes, it is particularly difficult to try something new when you’re craving your fave places or dishes. We tend to try new restaurants when other people invite us to dinner, but when we go to eat we typically chose our tried and trues.

So, I thought I’d round up my personal favorite restaurants in Houston so if you live in the area and haven’t been to them you can check them out!

1) RUGGLES BLACK: 3963 Kirby Dr, Houston, TX 77098

This restaurant blows my mind every time I eat there. They have Paleo, Keto, hemp, and gluten free items - as well as traditional (gluten, dairy, and sugar) items. The flavors are bold and eclectic and oh-so-delicious. Everyone I have taken there loves their food. And let’s not forget their dessert tray with about 30 items on it also ranging from traditional to Paleo and Keto. Every dish I have tried is incredible and I have tried a dozen of them! (Faves are: Paleo lamb taco, Paleo snapper taco, Bolognese, Brussels sprouts, Tandoori chicken pizza with gluten free crust, and the Pho with spaghetti squash noodles instead of noodles.)

Mind blowing good, y’all.

2) STATE OF GRACE: 3258 Westheimer Rd, Houston TX 77098

I’ll admit I was never quite interested in their menu, but loved their brownie sundae with the toasted marshmallow topping. 🤤 Then one day the hubs and I went for dinner and I tried their “greens of the moment” salad with roasted chicken and I.AM.HOOKED. Now when we’re headed to that area and I want a salad that is my place. I can’t speak on the rest of the menu, but the hubs likes their filet with the browned butter. He swears it’s heavenly.

3) LOCAL FOODS: multiple locations around town

Speaking of amazing salads, this is my other favorite. Order the “garden sammie as a salad” with chicken (if you want a protein) and just trust me. O-M-G It never lets me down.🤩 If you’re really hungry also order the pozole soup (if it’s on the menu as it’s seasonal). It is amazing.

4) ARMANDO’S: 2630 Westheimer Rd, Houston TX 77098

Two things I love most here are their margaritas and their fajita taco salad using their red salsa as a dressing. Be still my heart. Ok, if I’m being completely honest I also love their queso, chips, refried beans, and cheese enchilada. There. I said it. I need to attend a Tex-Mex anonymous support group.

5) GRINGO’S: multiple locations around the outer loop

GREEN SAUCE. This restaurant is the #1 KING of green sauce. Their chips are light and airy too so you don’t feel weighed down when you eat nothing but chips and green sauce. If you’re not “watching what you eat” then order the Rosita and thank me later. They have great food at great prices, great drinks at great prices, and normally have free fro-yo but temporarily have the machines off because of Covid-19.

Honorable mentions:

*Mastro’s - au gratin potatoes and the chopped salad. YUMMMM Of course I love their scallops and NY strip as well.

*King Ranch Texas Kitchen - the brisket queso and guac will sell you on this place alone, much less the amazing food.

*Brasserie 19 - they have my favorite hamburger and the truffle aioli is da-bomb.

*Steak 48 - they have a delicious twice baked truffle’d potato. I can’t stop eating it!

*Mendocino Farms - the “sandwich study of heat” on gluten free bread is by far the best sandwich I’ve ever had!
