Home Décor for the Office and Media Room

Hello there friends,

I’m FINALLY finishing up the tour of our previous home. Last time I showed you the guest bedrooms. Today I’ll wrap up the tour with the last guest bedroom that we used as an office/gym, my office nook, and the media room. I kept having to postpone this due to other posts being a hint more time sensitive or time appropriate with the holidays, etc. 😉

Once our new home is fully renovated and picture ready, I’ll share details about it as well. We’re STILL waiting for a few things to be completed like the wine room, some drapes to be installed, and some other items to be delivered.

Welcome back to our (previous) home!

When we moved into our previous house we tried to use some of the furniture we already owned while adding in some new things.

GUEST BEDROOM 4 - used as husband’s OFFICE and my GYM space

This was the only bedroom that didn’t have an ensuite bathroom so we decided to use it as my gym space and put husband’s “office” space in there. He occasionally works from home, but not often enough that he needed his own space. It worked well for us.

  • We added custom shutters to the windows and solid navy black out curtains.

  • We used this cream and navy snowflake medallion area rug that was in his office at the home before this one.

  • We purchased this black and gold desk as we wanted something smaller for that space.

  • My home gym set up works great for me and yes, I actually use. =) I have the SOLE F80 foldable treadmill 2020 Model. I opted to find one that does not have a TV type of screen because I do not watch TV while exercising. I place my iPad on there and go! My only complaint is that the fan doesn’t work well. I barely feel it.

  • I placed this treadmill mat underneath it.

  • I’ve been using the Lululemon Mirror for three years and I love it! The membership costs about $40 a month and there are a ton of exercise class types and option for choosing such as: duration, what equipment you have available, instructor, and intensity level. The program was just purchased by Peloton so we will have additional Peloton classes available soon, too.

GUEST BATHROOM - for the media room and guest room 4/offices

  • I ordered this custom extra long velvet shower curtain with a liner from Etsy. It really changed the look in there because the ceiling was so tall and a regular shower curtain looked awkward. There are 32 colors to choose from and you can select the length you need. Ours was 72” wide x 115” length - Earth Grey with .5” silver grommets and a waterproof liner. We hung it using a ceiling curtain rod in satin nickel.

  • I found the faux marble end table on sale (open box) at Wayfair, but wouldn’t you know that it is also available on Amazon with a different name. Funny how they do that! 🙄 Anyway, it added a little decorative space to the bathroom.

  • The gray rugs I found at Target. The framed art prints were items husband had before me. And the small decor items were Ross and Marshall’s types of purchases.

OFFICE NOOK

There was an open space in the hallway that the builder had added this beautiful stenciled damask wall paper and sconces. They had it staged as an office space so it became my office space.

MEDIA ROOM

  • We had the builder add coordinating wooden shelves above the counter to mirror what we had in our master bedroom coffee bar area. It looks much better after that instead of having that large open space. Husband displayed his collectibles and airplane things in there.

  • We brought the Arhaus sectional we already owned, as well as the custom leopard print ottomans we use as a coffee table. These actually had a wooden coffee table with a glass top that allowed the ottomans to be pushed under/into it, but I got rid of that heavy thing a while back.

  • We used the same ivory shag area rug from Walmart that we had at the previous house. With dogs and an elderly cat (at that time, may he RIP) I was not and am not eager to spend a lot of money on rugs that will get ruined in time. I prefer inexpensive ones that hold up well, but if/when they get soiled enough times from pets I don’t feel back to throw them out.

  • We added custom shutters to the windows and these beautiful black velvet, extra wide curtains.

  • We hung a black, floating media shelf under the TV when I moved the bench under the TV and had to move the console table we were using. 😉

  • I inherited the long storage bench from my Great Aunt Veila. I used an all-in-one black chalk paint to paint the entire thing and changed out the drawer pulls to a modern brushed brass pull. I would have loved it in it’s original wooden brown design, but I thought it would be extra pretty in black. Aunt Veila had 3 seat cushions on it, but I’m not convinced it’s really meant to be sit on. However, I want to protect the painted surface and figured Loretta would end up sitting on it so I ordered fabric from Spoonflower and had someone make me two long seat cushions. The fabric is “tiger and peacock black (medium scale)” in performance velvet. I love it!!

The neat thing about this paint is that it does not require sanding before painting and does not require waxing after painting. I didn’t have the proper space to take on sanding the bench before painting it nor to use a proper paint sprayer so I took the easy way out. 🖤

Well friends…that completes the home tour of our previous home. If you missed the previous home tour posts click here. I really loved that house and was SO excited to move into it after looking at homes for six months. It took us SIX months to find a home that fit our needs/wants. She was a lovely space to live and host friends, family, and events. I pray she provides a lovely and safe space to call home for the new owners.
