Home Tour and Updates - Part 1

Hello there, friends.

I hope your day and week are treating you well.

I recently completed a DIY update to the guest bathroom of my new home and keep thinking that I should go ahead and introduce you to my new space, even if there are more future projects and painting to do eventually. I also recently decorated for fall and that keeps stirring in my mind as something to share in my little corner of the interwebs.

I’m going to walk us through my new home in a handful of posts, much like I did before in my previous home(s) that way I can show you before and after photos of any projects/renovations.

If you missed the home tour posts of the previous home then click here. It was a major project including 6 bathrooms, 5 bedrooms, the formal sitting room, the kitchen, laundry, media room, etc. Basically the entire house. It was stressful. It was fun. It was beautiful.

You can pin this to Pinterest to save it for later or to share.

Let’s get started.

Welcome to my home!

I purchased her in June 2024 and started making some updates before I moved in as well as some small updates after I moved in. She may not be my forever home, but is/has been the perfect place for my new season of life.

ENTRYWAY UPDATES:

  • I changed the tile in the entryway, mudroom, and powder bathroom to this mosaic tile I was crushing on before but discovered too late in the process at the previous home. I was determined to use it before I considered the price point, but was too eager to have it and spent way too much for such a small amount of square footage. That being said, I love it every day. No regrets.

  • I changed the ceiling light fixture in the foyer room to give it a little more character.

  • I completed a DIY paneling project earlier this summer and painted the trim and walls in between Sherwin Williams “Snowbound”, which is the same color as the existing trim after considering many other paint colors. I really wanted to go dark but with the lower lighting a majority of the day the darker green paint colors looked black. I wanted to do traditional wainscotting but with the wall angle leading into the dining and around to the mudroom I decided to return ALL of those panels and go with a shaker style board and batten look. This gives the wall a definitive end as well as coordinates with the existing baseboards. I chose the board widths to coordinate with the the door trim width in my home.

MUDROOM & POWDER BATHROOM BEFORE:

MUDROOM & POWDER BATHROOM UPDATES:

  • I replaced the tile floor as noted above with this mosaic tile.

  • I replaced the mudroom hooks with bird hooks from Anthropologie that are no longer available, but I’ve included some available options in this link.

  • I added these bench cushions and these baskets to the cubbies at the bottom and along the top for storage. I had the larger ones from two houses ago and I had searched high and low to find baskets to fit that previous home’s mudroom cubby holes. Thankfully they fit perfectly and I only had to order the smaller ones for the top shelf.

  • I had the bathroom painted Sherwin Williams “Doeskin”.

  • I replaced the vanity, the vanity light, the sink faucet, and the bathroom hardware.
