Friday Favorites - January 13th 2017

Happy Friday!  TGIF.  I hope everyone had a great week.  For me it was the first full work week in almost four weeks so I felt a little struggle pining for the weekend.  But, truth be told I love my job and I love getting up at 4am to read before going to the gym so in all honesty I can't complain!

Today I'm linking up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci to share some of my favorites from this week.  I figure this will provide you a little more insight into my mind than me just sharing details about an outfit I wore this week (which also made the list of one of my favorites anyway!).  In no specific order of ranking, my favorites from this past week are below.

Favorite #1

Mammaw.  Just because.  I spoke to Mammaw after church on Sunday and everything about her makes me smile.  She's the sweetest angel on earth, uplifts me with love and prayer every time I speak to her, and always reminds me to walk in love and forgiveness as Christ forgave us.

This past weekend when I went out to dinner I pulled out an old top from Zara that I've had for years.  I tend to forget about this shirt and I don't know why.  It has the cutest (p)leather shoulders at the top, fits loosely over a black camisole or tank, yet is flattering.  I threw it on with my Blank NYC distressed skinny jeans and my DV by Dolce Vita over the knee boots from Target that are on sale for $19.99.  WHAT?  I'm considering buying a second pair to store as back up.  They're so comfortable too!  I managed to snap a few selfies before heading out the door.  I can't say that they're my best photos ever, but I think I'm improving a little from the even more awkward ones when I first started the blog.  Baby steps in progress...

I've gathered together similar items to my outfit for you here should you be interested!  I couldn't find the exact shirt of course, but there's plenty of other cute ones out there.  You can also copy and past this link here: http://www.target.com/p/women-s-dv-marilyn-over-the-knee-fashion-boots/-/A-50847331

I'm reading through the One Year Bible (and loving it) and this verse struck my heart.  Sometimes we forget that our actions set an example for others and especially as Christians we need to consider our influence.  I was feeling discouraged and worn out last week, wondering if I was making a big enough difference with my own life and actions especially concerning the blog and wanting it to bring forth goodness and glorify God.  Then, literally that evening I read this passage:

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

I hadn't realized until this past weekend how much I actually love my semi-new sunglasses!  I bought them 2 to 3 months ago, but haven't had many opportunities to wear them given our weather, shortened day light hours, and five minute commute to/from work.  Plus, I'm weird about shapes, fit, and prices for sunglasses as I've spent too much in the past for designer glasses that get scratched (or stolen) the same as my inexpensive pairs I'll snag from Marshall's.  It's a love/hate search each time I have to buy a new pair.  Well, these Express Tortoise Heavy Brow Cat Eye sunglasses are only $30 anyway.  Done and done.

I was sporting a red beanie, a red and dark blue/black plaid scarf, along with Loreal's Le Matte Mad for Matte lip pen.  I get compliments on this color almost every time I wear it so I figured I should share.  It's also a favorite!  (Note* I have the shade Matte-r of Fact as well and love it too.)

I had several great meals out and about this past week, but this Paleo turkey Chile verde that I made Sunday evening takes the award.  *mind blown*  This is just a teaser for the recipe I will share on Monday so you'll have to wait.  Sorry!  I will say that I was curious why it is Chile versus chili when I was looking at the original (non Paleo) recipe I based this off of.  Take note!

Chile, in reference to food (not the country), refers to a capsicum pepper, specifically a spicy pepper and even more specifically, the green and red type chile peppers grown throughout New Mexico. In most cases we refer to any hot pepper – ancho, jalapeno, pasilla, serrano, chile de arbol – as chile peppers or chiles. Also, dishes that feature New Mexico chiles, normally use the “chile” spelling: green chile sauce, green chile stew, red chile sauce, green chile enchiladas.
